Successful workshops at the Shulma gompa clinic

Successful workshops at the Shulma gompa clinic
Within our health project and as a response to the needs of the local
teams at the Shulma monastery clinic, Norlha organized training workshops
during two days. We wanted to assess the needs regarding community health and to
promote mother-child health.
The morning
sessions were about community health: everyday hygiene, preventive measures
against the transmission of diseases and the importance of nutrition. 26
representatives (among them, 4 leaders and 1 doctor) from 4 local communities
attended theses sessions with great interest. The afternoon workshops on
mother-child health attracted mainly women (28 women, 3 men and 6 children) who
were shy about sharing their experience and their questions. They seemed to
know little about the importance of nutrition, hygiene and the dangers that can
be avoided during pregnancy. Women give birth at home and a doctor supports
them only if a complication occurs.
Norlha cooperated
productively with the teams at the Shulma monastery clinic (3 doctors and the
priest) and with the local populations. Norlha brought to these workshops its
experience, visual aids and equipment that was well appreciated. These days
were very productive regarding the needs assessment and the cooperation with
the local teams who were very welcoming and enthusiastic! For the first time, a
foreign organization set up this kind of workshops on community health in this
area, and they were a success.
