SUPPORT FOR SCHOOLS IN TIBET (SICHUAN)

This project aims to improve overall education in the Sershul area

Objectives

• Improve learning conditions of rural schools in Sershul (ie., improved infrastructure, teaching materials, school equipment and supplies)
• Foster a quality education provided by competent and motivated teachers
• Provide support services that allow the students to succeed in learning (e.g., health care, school meals, etc)
• Improve health of the students and surrounding community by integrating curriculum on good health practices, hygiene and environmental issues.

To date, we have supported schools in two remote villages. As a result, we have seen their learning and their health greatly improve. We are now preparing to extend the project into three additional villages which will allow us to serve 270 additional students directly, and have a positive impact on their lives and their villages now and in the future.

During our investigations on the needs in the field of education, the local population, particularly women, have expressed their desire to strengthen the children’s education and thus "improve their future living conditions" and offer their children a better future.

The vast majority of them believe that this can only be achieved through better access to quality education in conditions conducive to effective learning.

While illiteracy is common in the valley and prevents the population from qualifying for future careers, illiteracy further limits their access to their learning their own culture and prevents openness to the world around them.

Education plays a crucial role in the development of society; it offers the hope of a better future for all families by providing access to basic training for young people who will then become eligible for employment.
